Hardwood Floors Cost - What
To Expect
If you're in the market for hardwood flooring and have been
checking prices, then you know how hardwood floors cost can
vary widely.
There are a variety of reasons for this, from the type of
wood used to whether you're looking at a solid hardwood floor
or one that is engineered. With that said, here's a quick look
at some basic costs.
Engineered Hardwood
Floors
This is your cheaper option in nearly every case. Since many
of these engineered hardwood floors are made of spruce or
poplar, the cost is reduced. I've seen prices in the $3.00 sq
ft range. In some cases you can catch a special sale and get it
for even less.
Solid Hardwood
Floors
For oak hardwood flooring you will generally be in the
$5.00-$6.00 range. If you are opting for a more exotic hardwood
floor, costs will be much higher. Brazilian cherry, Cyprus and
other types can run in the $15.00-$20.00 sq ft range.

Installation Costs
Costs for installing hardwood floors are all going to run
about the same for any type of wood floor. Typically, you can
expect to pay in the neighborhood of $5.00-$8.00 a square
foot.
If you are looking to add special patterns or a unique
border, it will add $1.00-$3.00 a square foot to the cost.
In addition, if you need the old flooring removed or your
furniture moved you should expect to pay extra as well. Steps
are another add-on that you may need to consider.
The typical hardwood floors cost for a 12x14 foot room will
be in the range of $3,400 for solid hardwood flooring.
Naturally, you may be able to get added discounts in your area,
or even do the installation yourself.
