Hardwood Floor Care

Eliminating Hardwood Floor Stains

Maintaining your hardwood floors with regular cleaning is not all that difficult, but what happens when you get that inevitable stain? For many, hardwood floor stains present a real issue in knowing what to do so you don't damage the floor. Here are some tips to help.

Gum

If you have children at home you know that accidents with gum are bound to happen. There's an easy fix to this problem though. First, put ice on the gum to freeze it up. Once it becomes brittle you can gently pop it off the floor. If you have any that doesn't come up you can pour some hardwood floor cleaner around it so it helps loosen it.

Heel Marks

Heel marks are common hardwood floor stains that can be removed with a little effort and finesse.

Begin by attempting to remove the stain with floor cleaner and a rag. In most cases this is all that will be needed. If this does not remove the marks you can use an extremely fine steel wool along with the wood floor cleaner. Rub gently and polish afterwards.

Cigarette Burn Marks

This can be a difficult case unless the burn is not too severe. Use fine steel wool and hardwood floor cleaner together and rub across the marked area. If the burn is severe then sanding and refinishing the area may be your only solution.

Water Marks And Stains

Water is one of the most common hardwood floor stains to deal with. The good news is that you should be able to take care of it easily.

Use a fine steel wool together with hardwood floor cleaner to remove the stain. You will need to wax the area afterwards, but it should look like new again. In severe cases you may need to use very fine sandpaper, although this should be a last resort only.

How To Eliminate Squeaking

Do your hardwood floors have an annoying squeak? Here's a quick fix you can do.

Find the area causing the squeaks and put some floor wax or talcum powder between the boards. That should eliminate the squeaking. Some people will suggest driving in a couple of finishing nails if it doesn't work.

Hopefully this information will help you with any hardwood floor stain.
