It goes without saying that immediately cleaning up any spills that happen will help prevent damage to any type of wood flooring.

Hardwood Floor Cleaner Basics

  • Always use a wood cleaner that is specifically formulated for your floor. Certain cleaners are for specific floors and not all are created equal.

  • Always follow the manufacturers directions in applying any floor cleaner. You don't want to assume you know how to use it.

  • Use the right type of mop when applying hardwood cleaners. It can really help reduce the time and effort spent.

Eco-Friendly Hardwood Floor Cleaners

Today, people everywhere are turning to "green" products that are more eco-friendly. This also applies to different cleaners for hardwood floors as well.

An easy to use green product is one that you can make yourself. Simply mix together 1/4 cup white vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle and you have an excellent cleaning solution. Add a few drops of lemon juice to give it a fresh smell.

The key with this mixture is to spray it on your mop head and not directly on the wood floor. Not only does this clean your floor, it doesn't contain any harsh chemicals.

Other green products include ones such as "Natural Clean Products Hardwood Floor Cleaner." Another is from New England Natural called "Indoor Clean All". These are just a couple of the many all-natural cleaners on the market.

As long as you follow the directions laid out by the manufacturers, you should have no problems in keeping any of your hardwood floors clean. With proper care they will last for many, many years.
